The talented riders use the so-called garrocha, a wooden pole of around three metres length, to skilfully turn and revolve around obstacles and themselves at high speed. Already in the past, shepherds herded their animals and caught those that had run off by horse – using the garrocha as a tool. The Spanish team thrills the audience with their incredible vibrant and fiery temperament, demonstrating why the Doma Vaquera is one of the most beautiful riding styles in southern Europe.

Talent runs in the family
Sebastián’s son Sebita has also been part of the riding team for several years. When presenting the impressive riding style, the audience will immediately see where the young rider from Andalusia gets his talent.

Sebastián’s wife Mercedes will also show off her skills in the shows with purely elegant dressage performances such as piaffes and passages. For the show, she has also performed in the side saddle, drawing attention to this unique riding style.

The riding team at CAVALLUNA
The team treats the CAVALLUNA audience to sophisticated performances: A constant change between high assembly and enormous speed calls for a great deal of concentration. In the shows, the team will present half-passes, pirouettes and turns at a gallop, demonstrating how well trained their horses are.

The Pura Raza Española breed, short P.R.E., is particularly suited for this traditional riding style. They are mentally strong and have a compact and muscular body. This makes them the perfect Doma Vaquera partner.
Since the riders are constantly carrying the garrocha, they must hold the reins in one hand. Therefore, they must be able to give the subtlest cues, which is no problem for Sebastián Fernández’s team.
